In the video game offer of the Canadian gaming rooms, could not miss the craps. I am pleased, therefore, to tell you about the best sites where to play craps online. The purpose of this review is to tell you everything you need to know about online craps, where to find the best games, and how to win at craps.

Most importantly, though, I’ll shed light on the rules of the game and give you a better understanding of how betting works. Experts say that you can learn the game in 10 minutes, but I want to go further and make you a pro, in the same amount of time. After this guide, playing craps for you will be like drinking a glass of water!

Craps rules: how to play?

The first thing you need to know is that craps is a game that revolves around the pass line bet. You start by betting on the pass line, then the player who rolls the dice – also known as the “shooter” – sets the so-called “come-out roll”. The players who bet on the pass line win if the dice show 7 or 11 and lose if they show 2, 3 or 12.

If the dice propose any other value, that becomes the “point”, to be played without further bets. Once the shooter rolls a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 and establishes a point, all bets placed on the don’t pass remain in play. At online craps tables, the point will always be marked “ON”.

For example, if the point is 5, the player rolls the dice trying to get a 5. When that happens, everyone passes and a new come-out roll begins. If a 7 comes up at any time other than during the come-out roll, the shooter loses the turn and all bets are said to be losers. Don’t worry, I’ll make it easy for you!

The craps table

Don’t be intimidated or scared by the layout of the craps table, because it only takes a few minutes to analyze it. Even if you’re playing online craps for the first time, rest assured: they’re here on purpose. You’ll notice the “Pass Line” – it’s the bet that rewards those who bet in favor of the shooter.

The “Don’t pass line,” on the other hand, is for those who bet against the shooter. The paradox of online dice is, ironically, the number 7. The “pass” is one of the bets that make players suffer the most, because it takes more than one throw before the final result is obtained, and while 7 is initially a favorable number for everyone, in the end it turns out to be the worst.

Pass bets give the house a very low advantage, 1.41%. The “come” area and the bets within it are similar to the pass, the only exception being that you only use it when the next bet is a come-out. For example, if 6 is the active point and you bet on the come-out area, you will win when the shooter gets a 7 or 11, but lose on a 2, 3 or 12. The house advantage is 1.41% on the come-out bet as well.

The don’t pass and don’t come bets have a house advantage of 1.36%, so lower. And now for the most interesting part of the game: let’s talk about the fact that you can get free opportunities on your bet. When you roll the dice, there are 36 possible combinations: six 7s, five combinations of 6s and 8s, four combinations of 5s and 9s and three combinations of 4s and 10s.

Let’s go into even more detail: we have six ways to get a 7 and five ways to get a 6. In other words, getting a 6 before drawing a 7 has odds of 6/5, identical to the payout. Here the house gains nothing, i.e. its advantage is 0%!

To make it simple for you, let’s try an example. If you bet C$5 on the pass and C$15 on the 4 or 10, the payout is 2:1, or C$30. 20C$ placed on 9 or 5 brings the payout to 3:2 and 30C$, and finally, if you were to bet 25C$ on 6 or 8, with odds of 6:5, you would collect 30C$.

Craps probability and payout

When placing a bet, it is very important to know what to expect. If you’re betting on a 6 or 8, you need to know that the house advantage is 1.52%, it’s 4% on a 5 or 9, and 6.67% on a 4 or 10. Obviously, this means that winning bets are paid 7:6 for a 6 or 8, 7:5 for a 5 or 9, and 9:5 for a 4 or 10.

If you bet on the 6 and the other player rolls a 5, 4, 12, 3, 9 or 8 nothing happens to your bet. You win if your number comes up and only lose if the shooter rolls a 7. By the way, one of the reasons why many players often bet on 6 and 8 is that these are the most frequent winning numbers.

So-called “one roll bets”, that is, bets in which the dice are rolled only once, are also part of the craps table. If you get two 1s or two 6s, and it’s a one roll bet on 2 or 21, it usually pays 30 to 1. For a payout of 15 to 1, you have to get an 11 or a 3, with a 6+5 or a 1+2.

If you make a 3+3, i.e. a 6, or a 4+4 for a perfect 8, the payout is 10-to-1. Finally, the 8-to-1 reward occurs when you get a 4 or a perfect 10, i.e. with a 2+2 or a 5+5, respectively.

The field consists of a series of equally interesting bets, as winnings are paid out at par. In the field, you win if your next roll is a 12, 11, 10, 9, 4, 3 or 2. If you roll a 2 or a 12, the payout is 2 to 1. The “any seven” bets pay 5 to 1 or 4 to 1, a “big 6” or a “big 8” pays 1 to 1 when you roll a 6 or an 8, and the “any craps” pays 7 to 1.

When you feel ready to enter the luxurious world of online craps, you will need to find out which games suit you best. At online casinos, you don’t have to worry about waiting for a seat at the table, because you decide how and when you play, but more importantly, where and how much.

All this, of course, without you even having to get up from your armchair at home, in a safe and controlled environment. At the online casinos I recommend, you’ll also be able to play without spending a lot of money, simply because of their low operating costs. You’ll also be able to take advantage of generous welcome bonuses and have the opportunity to choose from a variety of wagering limits.

You decide how much to bet, based on your budget, as many online craps games have limits ranging from $0.50 up to $2,500. If you don’t remember something, you can always read the craps rules or ask customer service for help. Also, in the demo version of the game you can learn how to play craps online.

The craps tables at Unibet have outstanding graphics and so many customizable options. For one thing, the betting limits can be adjusted to suit any budget, whether you want to spend little or bet more.

In the options, you’ll be able to turn off the warning messages and watch the interactive tutorial, while among other important features you’ll be able to enable easy mode, to change the interface and thus play on a reduced and easier-to-understand grid.

Craps Live, the variant offered by LeoVegas, is another example of a game of the highest quality, tailored to every type of player. Here, too, you can take advantage of the help section, which is very generous and full of well-organized content, so that anyone can understand how to play craps without much effort.

As with any other type of online craps, the RTP (return to player) percentage is very high: 98.64%. 888casino’s craps is also very similar, as the games belong to the same provider. This ensures recognizable mechanics and optimized gameplay at its best.

As always, trying your hand at a game produced by a well-known and respected developer is a real treat. The Random Number Generator that determines the results has been thoroughly tested, even before the game was released to the public.

The winning strategy in craps

Now that you’ve learned the basics and understand the odds, why not use that low house advantage in your favor? Let’s take a look at some strategies that really work and that you can try out for yourself in the demo version of the game. Every good strategy starts at the pass line, because the house advantage gets smaller as the odds number grows.

When you bet on “pass” and “come” with combinations of odds, the house advantage goes from 1.41% to 0.8%, then to 0.6% with two odds, to 0.4% with three, four or five odds and finally even to 0.2% with 10 odds. The point of this system is to use a large portion of your bet on virtually free odds, which have a house advantage of 0.

It’s best to follow up your “pass” bet with 2 or 3 “come” bets, to have three or more numbers at your disposal. It works perfectly, given the typical flexibility of the betting limits you can find at online craps tables:

If you prefer to bet against the person who is rolling the dice, we have the “don’t pass” and the “don’t come”. Remember that these two areas are on the opposite side of the “pass” and the “come”, but have a lower house advantage, 1.36%, which is also better for you. With a single odd, as in the example above, the house advantage decreases to 0.7%, then becomes 0.5% with two odds, 0.3% with three, four and five and 0.1% with 10.

Tired of waiting for online dice rollers to determine a number? Then you can bet on the 6 and 8, not only because they’re the most popular choices (and come out the most), but because then you get to pick your own numbers. Here the house advantage is higher: 1.52%.

Remember that two dice have 36 possible combinations: would you like to cover 30 out of 36? In craps you can, with the strategy The Dinner, which includes all numbers except 7, i.e. 30 out of 36 combinations.

In the “field” table, bets pay even, except for the 2 paid 2:1 and the 12 paid 2:1 or 3:1. If you bet C$5 and roll a 12, you collect C$15 or C$10 if you roll a 2; C$7 if you roll a 5, 6 or 8 and C$5 if you roll a 3, 4, 9, 10 or 11. Let’s not talk about a 7, because then you would lose all your investment.

Bankroll management in online craps

No guide can be called complete without a little bankroll management! Or as I like to say:  play better, not more!  Think of it this way: do you know another casino game that gives you a real chance to win? A house advantage of less than 1%, what more do you want? If you want to play to win, here’s what you do: bet on pass/don’t pass and add the odds.

There is nothing wrong with playing this way if your money lasts longer. Placing this type of bet will only risk you a few CAD. If you think it will take you too long, you can skip the odds. Don’t worry about payouts if you can’t afford to bet. The truth is, if you place a “pass” bet and then add two “like” bets, you risk C$15.

Betting on the 6 or the 8, or both, is one of the most popular ways to play craps. If you choose to bet on both numbers, your investment will be double. Finally, you can bet on the pass and then on the 6 and the 8: this is the perfect situation for those who like to split multiple bets.

Ideally, you should bet on the pass line and pay attention to the number that becomes the “point”, and then add a bet on another number (6 or 8). To mitigate the risk, you can take advantage of the free odds, but play responsibly and remember: regardless of the combination, your RTP will be greater than 98%!

Who creates the best online dice games?

I couldn’t help but mention those companies, brilliant innovators, that have made the transition of the most famous dice game from land-based casinos to the best online operators, even giving us some nice variants of craps. Evolution GamingMicrogaming and Playtech are the three most popular developers in online gaming rooms.

Best online craps developers

  • Microgaming’s software has been allowing us to play online since 1994. Talking about online craps, players demanded it and the company implemented it. The software of Microgaming is suitable for all types of players and its products are impeccable. The game screen is user-friendly and from there you can access the instructions at any time. What makes Microgaming’s craps special is the table layout and the “win” and “lose” zones. To make it easier for you to place bets, the bottom of the game screen has options to cancel or repeat bets. You can also customize your gaming experience and enjoy the best online craps with the lowest house advantage.
  • Playing from the comfort of your own home comes with a number of advantages, and being able to do so from the comfort of the best software around is one of the most important of all. Playtech has made an excellent reputation for developing some of the most sophisticated casino software in the industry, capable of meeting the highest standards. And with the game of craps, it hasn’t been any different. Excellent odds and incredible graphics are the strong points of this provider, which has developed craps with its usual maniacal attention to detail. You can tweak gameplay and design to your liking, to enjoy the unique Playtech online craps experience 100%.
  • Founded way back in 2006, Evolution Gaming set out to revolutionize the live casino platforms first, and then the mobile ones; missions that, I must admit, it has managed to accomplish brilliantly. Throughout its history, the company has produced some of the most clicked and loved games among online gambling enthusiasts. Its version of live craps is a little gem set in a themed television studio, reminiscent of a real casino. Among the goodies, the possibility of constantly viewing the dynamic statistics, which summarize the bets of the players. The game is accessible to everyone, thanks to the user interface which is very easy to navigate.

There’s no doubt about it: craps is one of the most dynamic and fast-paced table games there is. The dice never stop, so you have to be very effective at betting within seconds. If you ever find yourself playing in a land-based casino, you’re likely to hear some strange craps terms. Here’s a table to use as a reference.

Craps jargon
1 “Natural Winner!” When the comeout roll is a 7 or an 11
2 “Puppy Paws!” Two 5
3 “Center Field!” When the shooter rolls a 9
4 “Skinny Dougan!” When a player loses on 7
5 “Skate and Donate!” When an 8 comes out
6 “Jimmy Hicks!” When a 6 comes out

8 “Boxcars!” When someone makes double 6
9 “Snake Eyes!” When it comes out a double 1
10 “C and E Craps!” When an 11 comes out

Craps online, the modern version of the most famous dice game

Microgaming, Playtech and Evolution Gaming have found the recipe for success: take a game loved by the public and make it online. No frills: just beneficial rates and favorable RTP. The casino apps, developed for Android and iOS devices, are optimized to perfection and host all your favorite games.

Returning to online craps, let me briefly summarize what I explained in this guide. Remember that everything revolves around the pass line. The game begins with a roll of the dice (the come-out roll). Did you bet on the pass line? You win if you get a 7 or 11 and lose if you get a 2, 3 or 12. The other numbers become the so-called “point”.

For example, you roll a 6: that becomes the point. You’ll win if you roll a 6 and lose if you roll a 7. Then it starts again and you have two options: play more simply or use the strategies I’ve outlined in this guide. The online craps have one of the lowest house advantages ever, but a good alternative can be the Online Craps, the FAQ.
